We’ve had a run of heavy tales on the podcast. And with all this pandemic nervousness swirling, we thought you may want some music to take your thoughts off issues.

So this week, we have got an episode from our friends over at Latino USA. It’s about Flor de Toloache, a Latin Grammy-winning mariachi band based mostly in New York City. They’re an all-women group, bucking custom and enjoying a method of music that is often performed by males. And it is a multi-ethnic crew, performing conventional Mexican music that a few of them did not develop up listening to.

In this episode, the group’s members describe what made them fall in love with mariachi music, their days busking on the New York subway and the way they put their very own spin on a tradition-heavy style.
