Target and CVS are the newest nationwide retail chains requiring prospects to put on masks because the variety of COVID-19 circumstances continues to skyrocket.

The corporations introduced the brand new insurance policies on Thursday following comparable strikes by a rising variety of retailers performing to fill a void left by native, state and federal businesses which have to date refused to set obligatory face coverings insurance policies.

As of Thursday, solely about half of the nation’s states require masks in public locations.

CVS Chief Operating Officer Jon Roberts defined the brand new buying guidelines come after “encouraging” prospects to cowl up.

But he stated the current surge in circumstances calls for extra excessive measures.

“With the recent spike in COVID-19 infections, we’re joining others in taking the next step and requiring all customers to wear face coverings when entering any of our stores throughout the country effective Monday, July 20,” Roberts wrote in a statement.

“To be clear, we’re not asking our store employees to play the role of enforcer. What we are asking is that customers help protect themselves and those around them by listening to the experts and heeding the call to wear a face covering,” he stated.

On Wednesday, Walmart, Kohl’s and Kroger’s grocery retailer chain stated they are going to be implementing comparable insurance policies.

“Currently about 65 percent of our more than 5,000 stores and clubs are located in areas where there is some form of government mandate on face coverings,” Walmart defined in a statement.

Officials added the brand new requirement, which is able to go into impact on Monday will “help bring consistency across stores and clubs.”
